OUR TEAM

How Did We Get Here

The idea commenced when our founder, Don Bowne, saw Donald Trump step off his plane wearing a red Make America Great Again hat in the fall of 2015. In January of 2016 Don gathered a few Trump supporters together and wore simple red hats to start the group (Red Hats For Trump).

On February 3rd, 2016 at the local Trump Campaign HQ, with Gerri McDaniel, the idea became a grassroots movement. The group started with about twenty people and an idea to get as many people as possible to wear red hats to support Donald Trump for President. The first 80 hats were plain red hats with "Trump 2016" stickers on them. The small group began to spread the word all over social media to wear red hats in support of Trump.

Don then began to hand out hats for FREE. Each hat was numbered, starting with #81. As the movement began, Don was able to hand out over 600 hats as of November 2018. When a supporter received their numbered hat, a picture was taken and posted on social media. The goal was to get supporters to show off their new red hats in hopes more people would join the movement.

By 2020, over a thousand hats had been given out by Red Hats For Trump. Some notable Red Hat holders are Vice President Pence, Donald Trump Jr., Judge Jeanine, Governor Henry McMaster, Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette, Senator Lindsay Graham, Laura Ingraham, Mike Lindell, Diamond and Silk, Cory Lewandowski, and more!

As President Trump is sadly no longer in the White House, Don decided to turn the Red Hats For Trump movement into a national organization, Red Hats America.
